With the arrival of my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B06XD18H6K?ie=UTF8&tag=clivsperswebs-20&camp=1789&linkCode=xm2&creativeASIN=B06XD18H6K\" target=\"_blank\">Raspberry Pi Zero W and the official case<\/a>, I could free up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/how-i-built-my-home-raspberry-pi-3-cctv-using-a-motion-eye-os-image-from-home-surveillance\/\" target=\"_blank\">Raspberry Pi 3 that I had been using for home surveillance<\/a> for other projects. <\/p>\n<p>This post documents how I connect my Raspberry Pi camera module to my Raspberry Pi Zero W and the official case.<\/p>\n<h2>Parts to be assembled together for Raspberry Pi Zero W CCTV with official case<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/parts-to-be-assembled-together-for-raspberry-pi-zero-w-cctv-with-official-case.jpg\" alt=\"Parts to be assembled together for Raspberry Pi Zero W CCTV with official case\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In this setup, I have with me the following parts to be assembled together:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B06XFZC3BX\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=clivsperswebs-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B06XFZC3BX&linkId=f1d5f7b4ced5640c1b039c5f4306a4e1\" target=\"_blank\">Raspberry Pi Zero W board<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00E1GGE40\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=clivsperswebs-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00E1GGE40&linkId=b54e0f39d042a83abc6e5362bc6c4285\" target=\"_blank\">Raspberry Pi Camera Module V1<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B06XWBB6CP\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=clivsperswebs-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B06XWBB6CP&linkId=ec3e8d3a8898693c46fed8344a5e2295\" target=\"_blank\">Raspberry Pi Zero Official Case base, camera lid and camera cable<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Removing the original flex cable from the Raspberry Pi camera module<\/h2>\n<p>The camera module comes with a flex cable that will not fit into the CSI camera connector on the Raspberry Pi Zero W. Hence, we will need to remove the flex cable from the camera module. To do so, we pull the black connector downwards as shown in the picture below:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-camera-module-1-with-original-flex-cable.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Camera Module 1 with original flex cable\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A loosened camera connector will look like the following:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-camera-module-1-with-original-flex-cable-and-clip-loosened.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi camera module 1 with original flex cable and clip loosened\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the camera connector loosened, you can then remove the flex cable from the camera module.<\/p>\n<h2>Connecting the Raspberry Pi Zero W flex cable to the Raspberry Pi camera module<\/h2>\n<p>The camera cable that comes with the Raspberry Pi Zero Official Case looks like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/camera-cable-that-comes-with-official-raspberry-pi-zero-case.jpg\" alt=\"Camera cable that comes with official raspberry pi zero case\"\/><\/p>\n<p>We will need to connect the wider end to the Raspberry Pi camera module and push the connector clip back up:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-zero-camera-cable-connected-to-camera-module.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Zero camera cable connected to camera module\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The fastened camera connector looks like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-zero-camera-cable-connected-to-camera-module-with-clip-fastened.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Zero camera cable connected to camera module with clip fastened\"\/><\/p>\n<h2>Connecting the camera cable to the Raspberry Pi Zero W board<\/h2>\n<p>To connect the camera cable to the Raspberry Pi Zero W board, we first loosen the clip of the CSI connector on the board:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-zero-w-board-with-camera-csi-connector-clip-fastened.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Zero W board with camera csi connector clip fastened\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The loosened clip will look like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-zero-w-board-with-camera-csi-connector-clip-loosened.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Zero W board with camera csi connector clip loosened\"\/><\/p>\n<p>With the clip loosened, we can then slot in the camera cable:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-zero-w-board-with-camera-cable-slotted-into-csi-connector.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Zero W board with camera cable slotted into CSI connector\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Once we slot in the camera cable, we then fastened the CSI connector clip:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspberry-pi-zero-w-board-with-camera-cable-slotted-into-csi-connector-and-clip-fastened.jpg\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Zero W board with camera cable slotted into csi connector and clip fastened\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Slotting the Raspberry Pi Zero W board into the base of Raspberry Pi Zero Official Case<\/h2>\n<p>Once the camera module is connected to the Raspberry Pi Zero W board, we can then proceed to slot in the Raspberry Pi Zero W board into the base of the Raspberry Pi Zero Official case. <\/p>\n<p>Since the base of the Raspberry Pi Zero Official Case does not have a slot for the microSD card to be inserted to the board, we should insert the microSD card into the card reader on the Raspberry Pi Zero W board before slotting the Raspberry Pi Zero W board into the base of the Raspberry Pi Zero Official case.<\/p>\n<p>To slot the Raspberry Pi Zero W board into the base of the Raspberry Pi Zero Official Case, we tilt the board under the catch of the base:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fitting-raspberry-pi-zero-w-board-into-base-of-raspberry-pi-zero-official-case.jpg\" alt=\"Fitting Raspberry Pi Zero W board into base of Raspberry Pi Zero Official Case\"\/><\/p>\n<p>And then push down the other side into the base of the Raspberry Pi Zero Official case.
