{"id":567,"date":"2017-12-08T17:10:54","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T09:10:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/?p=567"},"modified":"2018-09-05T10:54:10","modified_gmt":"2018-09-05T02:54:10","slug":"types-of-modular-interface-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/types-of-modular-interface-design\/","title":{"rendered":"Types of modular interface design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a lesson on modular architecture from a System Architecture course, I find myself referencing back to the topic of modular interface design to gather inspiration. <\/p>\n<p>As described in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Product-Design-Development-Irwin-Marketing-ebook\/dp\/B00ZYY672W\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&me=&linkCode=ll1&tag=clivsperswebs-20&linkId=3bdf6ae50d26a789156e36a0f38368ef\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Product Design and Development by Karl Ulrich and Steven Eppinger<\/a>, there are 3 types of modular interface design.<\/p>\n<p>To cater for future reference, I documented some information about 3 types on modular interface design in this post.<\/p>\n<h2>Slot Modular Architecture<\/h2>\n<p>The Slot Modular Architecture consists of elements with differing interfaces. <\/p>\n<p>Each element shares a unique interface with a base element. As such, the elements cannot be swapped around.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/slot-modular-architecture.gif\" alt=\"Slot Modular Architecture\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Examples of Slot Modular Architecture includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/setting-up-a-low-cost-desktop-computer-with-raspberry-pi-3\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Low cost desktop computer with the Raspberry Pi 3 board as the base element<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/C302CA-DHM4-Chromebook-12-5-inch-Touchscreen-Convertible\/dp\/B01N5G5PG2\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1526979218&sr=8-1&keywords=ASUS+Chromebook+Flip+C302+with+Intel+Core+m3,+12.5-Inch+Touchscreen,+64GB+storage+and+4GB+RAM&linkCode=ll1&tag=clivsperswebs-20&linkId=5d924f83ba326b68afb06ffcfe6c9bc7\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 with Intel Core m3, 12.5-Inch Touchscreen, 64GB storage and 4GB RAM<\/a>; with ASUS Chromebook as the base elements connecting to different peripherals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Bus Modular Architecture<\/h2>\n<p>The Bus Modular Architecture uses a common bus, or similar concept. Each element uses a common set of interface to connect with each other.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
