Since the default hostname for Raspbian is <strong>raspberrypi<\/strong>, it will be easier to look for the IP address of a new Raspbian installation in this situation.<\/p>\n<p>Given that, let us look at how you can change the hostname of your Raspberry Pi in Raspbian via the Raspberry Pi Software Configuration Tool (<code>raspi-config<\/code>).<\/p>\n<p>Since the Raspberry Pi Software Configuration Tool is a command line application, you will need a terminal program to use it.<\/p>\n<p>If you are using Raspbian (for example Raspbian Buster) with a windowing system, then you will click on the terminal program icon to start a terminal program:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"363\" height=\"171\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Raspbian-Buster-20190710-taskbar-with-terminal-program-icon-hovered.gif\" alt=\"Raspbian Buster 20190710 taskbar with terminal program icon hovered\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1712\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you have started a terminal program, enter the following command to launch the Raspberry Pi Software Configuration Tool:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: bash; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\nsudo raspi-config\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>After you had done so, the Raspberry Pi Software Configuration Tool will start in your terminal program:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"562\" height=\"268\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20191022-raspi-config-just-started-up.gif\" alt=\"20191022 raspi-config just started up\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1843\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Given that, select <strong>Network Options<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"269\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20191022-raspi-config-screenshot-with-Network-Options-selected.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1837\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the <strong>Network Options<\/strong> menu loads, select <strong>Hostname<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"269\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20191022-raspi-config-screenshot-with-Hostname-selected.gif\" alt=\"20191022 raspi-config screenshot with Hostname selected\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1838\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After you had done so, raspi-config shows how you should name your new hostname, type <strong>enter<\/strong> to continue:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20191022-raspi-config-showing-RFC-mandate-on-hostname.gif\" alt=\"20191022 raspi-config showing RFC mandate on hostname\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1839\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, enter a new hostname for your Raspberry Pi:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"465\" height=\"318\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20191022-raspi-config-with-pi4plants-as-input-to-new-hostname.gif\" alt=\"20191022 raspi-config with pi4plants as input to new hostname\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1840\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you are done, <code>raspi-config<\/code> brings you to the initial page.
