{"id":1460,"date":"2019-02-06T15:00:01","date_gmt":"2019-02-06T07:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/?p=1460"},"modified":"2019-02-06T15:05:10","modified_gmt":"2019-02-06T07:05:10","slug":"how-to-connect-your-raspberry-pi-to-a-wifi-network-with-raspi-config-in-raspbian-stretch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/how-to-connect-your-raspberry-pi-to-a-wifi-network-with-raspi-config-in-raspbian-stretch\/","title":{"rendered":"How to connect your Raspberry Pi to a WiFi network with raspi-config in Raspbian Stretch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you own a Raspberry Pi with in-built WiFi or an attached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Official-Raspberry-Pi-WiFi-dongle\/dp\/B014HTNO52\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=clivsperswebs-20&linkId=526e7ded1b73e4ce3f4fdeeb89f9079b&language=en_US\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">USB WiFi adapter<\/a>, you will be able to connect it to a WiFi network. <\/p>\n<p>Given that WiFi connectivity, you can use then your Raspberry Pi as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/glossary\/http-server\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HTTP server<\/a> and\/or a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/glossary\/http-client\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HTTP client<\/a> on the Internet without using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/AmazonBasics-RJ45-Cat-6-Ethernet-Patch-Cable-10-Feet-3-Meters\/dp\/B00N2VISLW\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=clivsperswebs-20&linkId=121eef79a4d3708ad1a61bcbbfac9697&language=en_US\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">network cable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When you have installed Raspbian Stretch on your Raspberry Pi, you can use <code>raspi-config<\/code> to connect your Raspberry Pi to a WiFi network. For this purpose, you can follow the steps mentioned in this post.<\/p>\n<p>First, open a Terminal window by clicking on the highlighted icon at the top:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Raspbian-Stretch-20181113-desktop-with-a-terminal-window.jpg\" alt=\"Raspbian Stretch 20181113 desktop with a terminal window\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Once the terminal window had started, type the following command in the terminal window:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: bash; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\nsudo raspi-config\r\n<\/pre>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Raspbian-Stretch-20181113-terminal-window-with-sudo-raspi-config.jpg\" alt=\"Raspbian Stretch 20181113 terminal window with sudo raspi-config\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After <code>raspi-config<\/code> loads in your terminal, go through the following screens to connect your Raspberry Pi to a WiFi network:<\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>Network Options<\/strong> on the first menu of <code>raspi-config<\/code>:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspi-config-on-Raspbian-Stretch-20181113-with-Network-Options-selected.jpg\" alt=\"raspi-config on Raspbian Stretch 20181113 with Network Options selected\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the <strong>Network Options<\/strong> menu loads, select <strong>Wi-fi<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspi-config-on-Raspbian-Stretch-20181113-with-Wi-fi-selected.png\" alt=\"raspi-config on Raspbian Stretch 20181113 with Wi-fi selected\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After you had selected <strong>Wi-fi<\/strong>, <code>raspi-config<\/code> will prompt for the SSID of the wireless network that you wish to connect to. Therefore, enter the SSID of the wireless network to connect to:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspi-config-on-Raspbian-Stretch-20181113-asking-for-SSID-of-the-Wi-fi-network-to-connect-to.png\" alt=\"raspi-config on Raspbian Stretch 20181113 asking for SSID of the Wi-fi network to connect to\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When <code>raspi-config<\/code> gets the SSID of the wireless network, it will prompt for a passphrase. In case the wireless network does not require a passphrase to connect to, leave the input empty. Otherwise, enter the passphrase for the wireless network that you wish to connect to:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.techcoil.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/raspi-config-on-Raspbian-Stretch-20181113-asking-for-passphrase-of-the-Wi-fi-network.jpg\" alt=\"raspi-config on Raspbian Stretch 20181113 asking for passphrase of the Wi-fi network\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you had entered the passphrase, <code>raspi-config<\/code> returns to the first menu.
